Handicare AS acquires Romedic AB

(Moss, Norway, 5 March 2008) Handicare AS acquires RoMedic AB and strengthens its international position within patient handling products for elderly and disabled people. Handicare AS acquires 100% of the shares in RoMedic AB. Through this acquisition Handicare AS continues to grow, and is today the largest company in Scandinavia within the rehabilitation industry.

Handicare AS was founded in 1986 and is today owned by Ferd Private Equity Fund. Handicare produces technical aids, such as wheelchairs and home care products for elderly and disabled people. The company is also involved in car adaptation enabling disabled people to drive cars. Through its subsidiary Puls, Handicare AS has a leading position in Norway within equipment and consumables used by hospitals and institutions.

Handicare AS is headquartered in Moss, Norway, and has subsidiaries in Sweden, Denmark, Germany, the Netherlands, UK, Belgium and Canada. The company exports  to 20 other markets trough local distributors.

The products from Handicare AS make it easier for elderly and physically disabled people to move and take care of themselves. With the number of elderly people increasing, we anticipate a future growing market  and an increased need for technical aid equipment,. RoMedic AB contributes to strengthening our product range and opens new markets for additional products from Handicare AS. Handicare has an annual turnover of approximately NOK 1,8 million, and approximately 900 employees.

Björn Ross, the founder and co-owner of RoMedic AB, considers the sale of the company as an acknowledgement of the success the products he has developed within patient handling and mobility. He is glad his company is attractive for one of the leading companies within the sector.

“Handicare AS was considered as the most optimal buyer once we had decided to sell RoMedic AB”, says Mr. Hardy Brännström, the Managing Director and main shareholder of RoMedic AB. Mr. Brännström will continue his work as managing director in the company.

The parties’ intention is to co-ordinate their sales force in Sweden, and have appointed Mr. Thomas Lööw as division manager and responsible for the Swedish operations.
The parties have agreed to not disclose the purchase price.
