NJD wins, final verdict in the Hallingskeid legal case

On 19 September, the verdict in Hallingskeid legal case is final for NJD. After winning the Court of Appeals (second instance court) on 9 August 2017, the counterparty did not appeal to the Supreme Court and the verdict of the Court of Appeals is final.

In 2011 there was a fire close to the Hallingskeid railway station on the Oslo-Bergen railway line. Prior to the fire, NJD had performed welding works on the line as a subcontractor to Jernbaneverket (National Rail Administration). The welding was done according to standard procedures. Following the fire, NJD has been involved in a court case related to damages resulting from the fire. In 2015, the District Court (lower level court) ruled in favor of NJD. The decision was appealed. On 9 August 2017 the Court of Appeals (second instance court) also ruled in favor of NJD. The implication of the ruling is zero liability for damages for NJD and full coverage of all legal costs.
