Beerenberg awarded ISS contract at Nyhamna

(Bergen, 07.12.2012) Beerenberg and Kværner have signed a memorandum of understanding concerning ISS services at the Nyhamna onshore plant. The agreement is valid for five years with options to extend for a further 2 + 2 years. The estimated contract value is NOK 700 million.

“This is one of the largest contracts we have ever been awarded. Working at Nyhamna during the initial construction period in 2003-2007 proved to be a rewarding experience, and we look forward to taking part in yet another exciting project on the site,” says CEO Morten Walde.

Working on behalf of A/S Norske Shell, Kværner will carry out modifications to the Nyhamna onshore plant, which will include plans to expand capacity in order to receive more gas from the Ormen Lange field and the new Aasta Hansteen platform. Beerenberg will deliver ISS services to the project. This will include all services relating to insulation, scaffolding and surface treatment as well as associated procurement, engineering, fabrication and project management.

Back to Nyhamna
This is not the first time that Beerenberg is involved in work at Nyhamna. The company won a major contract for phase 1 of the construction of Nyhamna and had a large team on site for most of the four-year long project.

“We want to build on the experience we gained back then. We are familiar with the plant, the area and the suppliers in central Norway, and we are well placed to help make this a successful project for the client, for Beerenberg and for the local business community,” says Walde.

Beerenberg has been operating in central Norway since the 1970s and has been involved in a number of shipbuilding and petroleum projects. Partnership agreements with local subcontractors are already in place and will be developed further through a range of training programmes. Beerenberg will establish a new regional office in central Norway because of the increased volume of work.

Local content
Key partners on the Nyhamna project are Grip Maling in Kristiansund, Isoblikk in Tingvoll and Norwegian Group in Volda/Ålesund.

“We have also identified a number of other potential subcontractors,” says Walde, and adds: “Making use of local resources and local knowledge helps boost competitiveness and build local expertise. Many of our supplier agreements in the region date back several years.”

In order to help promote the opportunities that will be created for the supplier sector, Beerenberg will work closely with Navitas to develop suppliers and to successively add all plans and contracts to findcontracts.no. This is line with the strategy to increase local content and achieve sustainable development.
