New major contract to Aibel

Stavanger, Norway, 20th July 2010: Today, Statoil awarded Aibel the contract for construction of the deck on the Gudrun platform. The platform is scheduled to leave Haugesund in the summer of 2013. The value of the contract is in the region of 2.7 billion NOK.

‘For us this is a confirmation that Aibel is perceived as a very competent and competitive company. Having performed the pre-engineering for the deck, it has been important for us to win the Gudrun contract. Therefore, Gudrun fits well with our plans, both in relation to our other work and to our total capacity,’ says Jan Skogseth, President and CEO in Aibel AS.

Extensive contract
The contract is for the deck on the Gudrun platform, and it includes engineering work, purchasing and the actual construction work. In addition, it includes an option for connection and offshore assembly, with related engineering services. The contract also contains an option for future studies for similar platform decks.

‘The bulk of the engineering work will be performed at the company’s office in Oslo, while the bulk of the actual construction and commissioning will take place in Haugesund, with support from the company’s international resource centres in Singapore and Thailand,’ says Skogseth.

The mechanical work is scheduled for completion in March 2013, and four months later, in July 2013, the platform should be ready to leave Haugesund. The Gudrun platform will also contain the equipment necessary to operate the Sigrun field. Sigrun is to be developed with a subsea solution, and production will be via the Gudrun platform.

Facts about Gudrun
The Gudrun discovery was made as far back as in 1975, and it lies 55 km from Sleipner A. Gudrun is to be developed with a processing facility and output will be transported by pipelines to Sleipner A. The wells will be drilled with the aid of a jack-up rig. The platform will be situated in a depth of 109 meters. The principal and operator is Statoil Petroleum AS.
